Well, practically any way, I think I've finally solved the remaining issues I had with the wireless connection reconnecting on wake (thank you), and so nothing left to do but celebrate. This is all on my mums laptop, as I've got my macbook, and my old computer is already running ubuntu wirelessly. She had the base model Dell from 2008, which had Windows Vista basic installed and had been progressively getting slower since we got it, finally I had to do something on it, and it was so painfully slow, I decided to see if she would be able to use Ubuntu. She'd used it on a really old computer a couple years ago, but now she had mastered Skype, so I had to make sure that it worked on Ubuntu (with the webcam). Lo and behold, it did, and so here we are, with no Windows machines in the household (it still has Windows on a small partition, but that's just for the printer driver so that I can scan stuff on those rare occasions). I'm pretty sure she'll notice the speed difference, quite substantial it is, the startup time on Vista must've been a few minutes at least to be able to actually do something. Now, she shouldn't even have to restart at all (apart from system updates), and it should run very smoothly for the few applications she needs it for. Hooray for Ubuntu, here is the link to get wireless working for dell computers with the broadcom 43xx drivers, and of course the link at the top had the solution to the network connection failure on wake. One more for the death of Vista hopefully.

Finally got around to watching it, and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The only real insight I had into the film was that it was made by Stanley Kubrick, and that at some point some cowboy may ride a nuclear missile (from The Simpsons of course). Anyway, it turned out to be much funnier than I was expecting, for whatever reason I was expecting it to be some boring film, but when I was told it was only about 90 minutes long, it couldn't have been too bad. Some interesting roles for some well-known (at least now) actors, such as Peter Sellers, and (well, not that interesting, but interesting that it was him) James Earl Jones. It probably would've caused quite a stir at the time it was released, in the midst of the cold war and everything. The general played by George C. Scott was a great character, and then there was Dr. Strangelove, who didn't really appear until quite near the end, but what a cameo it was, very good. It was really suspenseful, kept me wondering what would happen for the entire time, and it was equally as entertaining in different ways, definitely recommend this Kubrick film.

Okay, so it's taken almost a bit over seven weeks (maybe) but the pictures I deemed worthy of uploading to flickr, are all up now. I provide here, a few samples of the photos that didn't make the cut because I thought they were interesting but maybe I didn't like them that much, or I already had too many of the subject. The subjects are varied, from beaches, wildlife including orangutans, proboscis monkeys, rainforest (or cloud forest), mountain views, sunrises, sunsets, city scapes, panoramas, etc, etc (those two etc's basically stand for nothing else). I really got into the HDR thing, and there are a much higher percentage of HDR shots compared to previous trips, so hopefully that means I'm getting better at the technique, but also the fact that the software has improved plays a big part as well. So those photos are up, and now the idea is to look at the future, and where I can (and will and when ) go next, I will give you more details when the time comes, and I have finalised everything. Oh, and the link to the Malaysian photos on Flickr. You may also have noticed (or not) a slight shift away from not-using upper case characters, at this point in time, I think it makes the posts a little easier to read.

well, all my cycling stuff has come together, and i've now got the whole package. my indoor trainer (which i won't be using indoors) came in yesterday, and my pedals last week, got some new shoes to go with the pedals earlier this week, and now i am looking like a pro. i managed to get the pedals on (despite the ridiculously narrow nut) and they seem reasonably tight, so i've been practising engaging and disengaging (i wanted to sound special) from the pedals using my new shoes with cleats. getting them in doesn't seem to be an issue at all, releasing is a bit more work, i'm not sure if i've got it all tuned right, cos it does take a bit of effort to get them out (hopefully it's just a getting used to phase, and it gets easier). anyway, i'll be practising a bit more on my trainer (maybe on the back streets as well) before monday, so that i hopefully have a smooth effort out on the real roads with traffic.

it actually feels really good when the shoes are in the pedals, it almost feels like i am at one with the bike (haha), we'll see how i feel when i'm actually riding up a hill or something. the trainer uses a magnetic resistance thingy, so you just put the bike up on it, and start pedalling, should be good for warming up the body, and those days where i feel i need to do exercise, but don't actually want to do anything. to get any real work out of it, i really need to be in a pretty high gear on the bike though.

yeah, so we've all heard the avatar story by now, boy meets alien girl, boy falls in love with alien girl, boy loses alien girl, boy gets alien girl back. went to watch it at the imax, it was probably worth it to see what all the fuss was about, the 3d, and the cgi. the film itself was pretty boring, kind of independence day meets pocahontas (i haven't seen pocahontas or heard the story, so that's a completely ignorant guess). the aliens (in this case, the humans) want to mine the planet of pandora for the very expensive and very valuable mineral unobtainium (who came up with that?), why it's so valuable, and why there is only one place on this planet, and in the universe (it seems) that has the mineral, we are not told, but unfortunately for them, the are human-like indigenous tribes (that sound eerily similar to african people, especially when they speak english) living in that area. obviously they don't want to move, and the humans aren't willing to give up the mineral deposit. so the army is sent in to blow the place up (whose idea was it to use a lot of terrorism-inspired dialogue?).

i probably skipped a big part of the story, the humans have developed a way to transplant a human brain (figuratively speaking) into an alien body (artificially created) so that they can interact with the locals in a more personal manner. that's the end of the review, basically, if you absolutely must see this film, it's probably better to watch it in 3d, so that it doesn't seem like you miss out on anything. the 3d graphics are pretty amazing, and the 3d film (while a bit disconcerting to begin with) is pretty cool (personally though, i'd probably just prefer to watch films normally until they give you proper wrap-around glasses that don't allow reflections in, and don't have gaps), the depth is very cool in some sequences, unfortunately (at least for me), not in the parts you'd really want it, the action scenes where you might think that arrows are coming straight for you or something. don't sit at an angle, the pictures become blurry, and try your best to get a seat in the middle of the cinema (we were off to the left a bit) so that you get the whole picture.

so in conclusion, the film was probably exactly what i expected, lots of very cool graphics and little else. i do like it when i have to guess who did what, especially based on knowledge gained during the film. i knew i was in for a long one (about two and a half hours) when the aliens started speaking alien language with subtitles, made up languages are never a good sign for me (though it was ok in district 9 until the story changed). i just read that there will be two more avatar films, i hope in the second one the humans come back and destroy the planet and take the goods, and then the third one the natives retake what is theirs, and also form a truce with the humans .

onto the second week of the malaysian trip, and after spending new year's eve in kuala lumpur, we had a flight out to kota kinabalu (kk) in sabah on malaysian borneo on new years day. while ozzy will blame our missing this flight on being hungover (or just drowsy), i like to blame alf () for making us be that little bit late (i have to admit mine the previous night was one of the smoothest i can remember having, not that i really remember any of them). so we missed check-in by about ten minutes, and had to get the next flight to kk, which was about three hours later. the plan for borneo was, climb mount kinabalu, see the orangutans, see some proboscis monkeys, visit turtle island, and spend some time on some nice beaches. we managed to complete four of those five tasks, unfortunately, all our earlier attempts to contact crystal quest to reserve a place to visit turtle island were not received, and when we finally got in touch with them, they had no availability until the day we were meant to leave. there's some advice for you, book well in advance, however, due to that fact, we were able to go to sapi island just off the coast of kota kinabalu, and spend a day there, definitely the best beach we visited, and probably close to being as good as tulum. well, the good beach was really small, but the water was crystal clear and a perfect temperature, but the size and difficulty in getting to the beach (not really that difficult, but hard enough to keep the families away, ten minutes walk over shallow rocks) meant that it was pretty quiet, very tranquil, until i arrived .

kota kinabalu, we stayed at borneo backpackers, which was a nice, clean hostel, with free internet (though the computer's browser was pretty random) and wifi. spent a day at the beach on manukan island, ok, but a bit rocky, the water was really nice though. sapi was definitely better, the secluded beach on manukan is accessible by either going to sunset beach and then walking down one of the trails, and then over some rocks, or the fast way (the way we went to get back to the main beach), over shallow rocks (south of the main beach), about twenty minutes probably.

we got a taxi about 7.30am up to the kinabalu national park (crazy, crazy driver), cost us $80rm total, going at that time, you might get a clear view of the mountain on the way there, it's pretty impressive. onto mount kinaba-luuuuuu!! (cool name right up there with mendoza!!), all 4095m at the summit, starting from about 1 866m (or something like that), over 9km, so the average gradient is about 25%, that's pretty crazy. the hike is broken into two parts, the first six kilometres goes from 1 866m at timpohon gate up to 3 270m at laban rata where the night's resting huts are. that's about 23% right there, so you know the last three kilometres are going to be tough. it was pretty misty on our way up but that didn't stop us taking photos, it is a national park after all. i think it took about four hours to do the first leg, with frequent breaks along the way. you probably wouldn't believe it, but i'm pretty sure there is a mobile signal all the way up till at least laban rata, not sure about higher than laban rata (i only tried on the summit, couldn't connect). but that's a tough six kilometres right there, seriously don't want to be carrying too much weight there, i would say more than five is too much (i think i had about seven, but i'm tough). so included in our package with sutera sanctuary lodges (the only place that you can do the summit climb with) was a packed lunch, buffet dinner, supper at 2am, buffet breakfast (more or less the same as supper), and buffet lunch when you get back down the mountain. about a four hour break between reaching laban rata and dinner, good time for a bit of rest, but also clothes drying (drenched in sweat, coolish weather but the body is working hard), we had really good weather, clear skies for the most part, apart from the bit of mist going up the first five kilometres or so.

after dinner (and a nice sunset), we had until about 2.30am to rest before supper and tackling the final 3km to the summit. i didn't get much sleep, i think i was just really excited, so after supper, we were to leave about 3am (a bit later than a lot of others cos we were among the fast ones). we had really amazing, clear skies with millions of stars, so that my cheapo aussie disposals headlamp was pretty much rendered useless. the start was slow going as all the early-leavers struggled up the early parts of the final ascent. i thought it was pretty boring personally, the first 500m or so, as it was such slow going (with only a narrow trail everyone had to use), but once we passed the tree line, and the surface was pure granite, there was a lot more room to move and the slow-coaches went by the way side. i got to the top about quarter past five, so a bit more than two hours to walk just three kilometres horizontally, but 800m vertically, about 27%, and i can tell you the last 1-200m was definitely the toughest. i took my beanie and gloves, and i'm pretty glad i did, even with the gloves, my hands were freezing, but it must have been better than alf and ozzy without gloves, pretty much my hands, nose, and ears were cold. the wind was biting cold, but it wasn't wet or anything, so it was bearable, for a time. we got some (hopefully) great sunrise photos, despite the cold, and a certificate to prove our climbing prowess.
the way down was not as hard on the heart and lungs, but it was a serious pain on my knees, calves, and quads. my quads were sore up to five days after the day, my calves maybe one or two days. it was tough-going descending, probably due to the steepness, and also the 9km we'd already put in going up. 3km down for breakfast, then a bit of rest before going back down the six kilometres back to timpohon gate and lunch. my legs were more or less shaking the whole way. after lunch, we just waited outside on the main road for something to happen, and we managed to get a taxi/mini-van for $20rm each back to kota kinabalu afterwards, other options are to get a taxi to sandakan (near sepilok), or wait for a big bus going either way.

update
oh, i forgot to mention some of the food options in kk, cos there are some really good ones, if you go along the main road (from north (jetty end) to south) for a bit, you'll eventually find an open air market, where fresh fruit, vegies, and other assorted foods are sold. there are a bunch of tables set up with people cooking food (mostly seafood) around them, there you'll find some really great, fresh seafood, i got a great, massive tiger prawn, and the most succulent squid (whole) ever, for just $40rm (price will vary based on size and person cooking). little italy has good pasta and pizza (good size portions too). don't go to upper star for food, drinks ok, but food no (it was slow and the food was very ordinary). there were some other places, but they probably weren't better or worse than anything else that was around.

we had already booked a flight to sandakan and didn't have our luggage with us, so we went back to kk for the night before heading to sandakan the next day (in a large amount of pain i might add). if you get the morning flight to sandakan, there is a chance you will get a cool aerial view of the summit of kinabalu, try and sit on the left hand side of the plane, we were on the right unfortunately. i read on the internet somewhere that you could take a taxi from the airport in sandakan to labuk bay in the morning to see the proboscis monkeys feeding, and then see the rangas in the afternoon, so that was the plan. we got our taxi, and he asked where we were going, then told us that we could see the rangas for their morning session (at 10am), and then get to labuk bay for the proboscis monkeys feeding time at 11.30am. so we trusted him and went for it ($250rm for three of us, didn't bother negotiating). we got to the orangutan sanctuary in sepilok just after 8am, so we had breakfast before the opening time of 9am ($40rm inc camera fee). we walked in with what seemed like a thousand other tourists (old people on package tours ozzy likes to call them, i heard someone say there were about 200+ packaged tourists that morning, i heard that at labuk bay), and pretty much immediately there was a ranga playing with a staff member right near the walking platform. then several more came out just before feeding time, i think we probably saw five or six reasonably close up, they are very cute. we were in a rush, so we left about 10.15am, but we'd seen them for about an hour or a bit more, and they had already started to disperse a bit, it was enough time to take several dozen crummy photos.

back in the taxi we arrive at labuk bay proboscis monkey sanctuary ($80rm inc camera fee) about 11.15am, it was much quieter, far less tourists, maybe 20 or so, the staff were just about starting to call out some animals. while the animals are wild, they're also relatively tame (from what i could see), first a hornbill bird of some description came flying down, then a bunch of silver leaf monkeys came down out of the trees and ran amok on the viewing platform. then finally, what we'd all been waiting for, the proboscis monkeys came out of the trees (accompanied by some unwanted macaques), the big schnozzes on the big males were very impressive. it was a great site, the big belly, the big nose, the number of wives and girlfriends all sitting around the big male eating. then they left, it would've been nice to really see them in their natural habitat (in the wild), but we weighed up the options of spending an extra day at the beach (in kk), or doing a wildlife river cruise near sandakan (the day that would otherwise have been used to visit turtle island), and decided that out muscles needed more healing in sea water. for the one night we spent in sandakan, we decided that we would live it up a bit, and stayed at the three star (i think) swiss-inn hotel, which was nice.

our last day in kk was spent going to sapi island as mentioned earlier, and it was definitely worth it, best beach of the trip, only cost $13rm each to get there by boat (plus terminal fee $6rm, and national park fee $10rm), no more than twenty minutes or so. then our flight back to kl got delayed by three hours (and now i just realised longer than two hour delays gets you a gift voucher with air asia, wonder if i'll use it ).

last days in kl were spent shopping (or attempting to), i found that most t-shirts were either too small, or the design i wanted was not available in the size i needed. oh well, depending on your size, ymmv. my last full day, i visited the bird park (hailed as the largest walk-in aviary in the world), it came across very much like a zoo, but since i already mentioned it yesterday, i won't go any further. the orchid and hibiscus garden across the road is good value for free on weekdays, and $1rm on weekends and public holidays.

ok, so it's time for the full briefing of the malaysian trip (the first week anyway), i'll mostly provide reviews and tips in this post, and then, over the next few weeks, as the pictures from the trip start going up on flickr, i'll post some updates here to keep everyone informed of the latest pictures. we'll start with kuala lumpur and i guess, air asia, the flight in was pretty stock standard, except that their seats don't recline (i mean, is there an extra fee to get reclining seats?), i paid extra for the exit row seats, but i think the leg room for the normal seats is fine (obviously there is more than you will need in the exit row), and you also don't have morons standing around your area for no good reason other than to be annoying. we had a flight delayed for three hours returning to kl from kota kinabalu (i suspect because they wanted to try and sell more seats, it was a pretty empty flight). and my flight back to australia was late by about half an hour (got about four hours sleep this morning before going to work), and so, in conclusion, for domestic/short flights, air asia is ok, for long distance, unless the price differential is extreme, i would go for a normal airline. also, you can opt to pay for your meal before your flight, but if they serve more than one meal, you will be forced to have the early meal, and pay for any later ones.

ok, back to things to do in kl (getting around is pretty easy for the most part):

see the petronas towers, went to see them a couple times, and also on new years eve, the mall there is one of the fancier, pricier ones supposedly, the towers are really cool though, free ride to the sky tower, but there's a limited number per day, so you have to go pretty early i guess (i didn't make it)

up to the kl tower, even taller than the petronas towers, but not as impressive i reckon, it cost $38 rm (about $13 aud) to go to the observation deck, nice view, but unfortunately a lot of the support posts (and dirty windows or reflections) get in the way of the panoramas, worth it though

batu caves, a hindu shrine on the outskirts of the city located in and around some limestone caves, massive gold statue out the front, cheeky rhesus monkeys roam the steps, free to wander around and have a look, get a local bus out, and catch a bus back from outside the entrance, worth it for the monkeys, takes less than half a day, probably really good if there is a hindu festival or something

chinatown, i was only there briefly, but i reckon the food is probably better than the shopping, good to have a look around though

bukit bintang is a busy shopping area, with, i reckon, better value in the shopping mall (if you can find something that fits) than chinatown, also a great street "jalan alor", really cheap and really tasty food at the restaurants/eateries in the street

bird park, the world's largest walk-in aviary, well, you know i don't like zoos, and this had a massive zoo-type feeling, poor owls, eagles, hornbills (i did see one flying about though), and kites (among others) in cages. the storks seem to have the freedom to leave if they want, so there's that, also, there are peacocks, parrots, and lots of different birds there, for $42 rm, not worth it, unless you're really into birds, and don't mind seeing some birds that look a bit sad, i also had to pay $38 rm to get on the hop on hop off bus to get there, the other option is taxi it seems

accommodation
i stayed at two places in my three visits to kl, first, hostel cosmopolitan in chow kit, i thought it was a really cool place, quiet, chilled out, clean, free wifi and internet (most places have that it seems), and two really cute cats (will post one to flickr), only $24 rm for a dorm, the only problem was it was a bit further from the cool areas of bukit bintang and bukit nanas.
the second place i stayed was trekkers lodge in bukit bintang, right near the shopping mall. the staff were friendly, but i can't recommend it based on the terrible bathrooms, leaking water everywhere.

after a couple days in kl, i took a bus up to penang to meet alf and ozzy, supposedly the bus takes four hours, well, from my 2pm bus (it left at about 2.30pm) it took about six hours to arrive at the guesthouse where we stayed in penang. penang is supposedly one of the best places to eat in all of malaysia, i didn't really eat that much there, there was a cool food court that did have lots of really good stuff though, we sort of didn't want to keep going back there though. i didn't manage to go to the beach up there, as the guys reckoned it wasn't anything special, so we got on the first ferry to langkawi, which was a day and a half later.

however, we did bear witness to a chinese street parade with performers and some such, that was fun, except that i struggled to get any decent pictures because the fa43 could not focus quickly enough in the low light, and the built-in flash made the whole process even slower, i think it's a monthly or bi-monthly thing, probably a lunar calendar thing

visited the "snake temple" just outside town, i have to say that was pretty lame, i still don't know if the snakes were real, i saw one breathe (maybe), they also had some real live ones for posing with, not worth it

paid a visit to the kek lok si temple, that was pretty cool, a nice view of georgetown, and a pretty pagoda, worth it

transport and accommodation
some local buses in the area have wifi, that's a cool feature, that's pretty much the only way to get around apart from taxis and walking.
the ferry to langkawi leaves twice a day, at 8.15am, and 8.30am, and takes 2.5 to 3 hours. stayed at the banana guesthouse, cheap and basic, but had free wifi.

on to langkawi, and tomorrow i'll do the sabah thing, we didn't do a lot in langkawi, pretty much spent the whole time on the beach, didn't ride the cable car, didn't go inland at all. we did manage to share half an hour riding a jet ski between the three of us, that was some crazy shit, i want a sea-doo now, so fast. alf paid for but didn't get to go para-sailing (well, he had one chance, and he blew it ), he did manage to get his money back though (eventually). on our last day in langkawi, we went to pulau payar (the marine park), it's about one hour ferry ride from the main langkawi island, and has some beautiful snorkelling and diving opportunities. i saw some little sharks, some people saw a big one, like 1.5m or so. we went with the cheaper company, coral island, for snorkelling it was more than half the price, for diving it was a little cheaper. in only six months, i pretty much managed to forget everything i learnt when i got my open water licence. forgot to spit clean my goggles, so they were fogging up constantly, forgot how to control my buoyancy, and just generally struggled to keep up. it was fun though, saw some clown fish, but it would've been so much better if i didn't have to concentrate so hard on the stuff that has to become second nature. i didn't even get my log book signed, cos i didn't think that i was going to go diving (so i didn't take it with me). the beach was nice, but there were jelly fish (not that many, i didn't get stung), and the sand goes back a long way, so there isn't any shade near the water. the water was also a bit murky.
since transport was negligible for us, i thought i'd comment on the restaurants for langkawi. there are a bunch of them that line the main street, and it seems a lot of them are understaffed, or just didn't like the look of us. right here, right now, i call for a boycott of the snobby garden tomato or whatever it is called, three times we tried, and three times we were turned back, the food probably wasn't that good anyway, and we were really only going there for the free wifi. there was a good arabic place (big-ish, yellow sign), got a nice kebab there, no alcohol though. oh, and a seafood place, a chinese restaurant near the grand beach motel (where we stayed, it was ok, we couldn't really find anywhere else, not that it seemed that busy), had the best prawns i had all trip, ridiculously massive tiger prawns, as big as lobsters (small ones).

we managed to reach the summit of mount kinabalu (i finally made a mountain top), went to a small island just off the coast (not survivor island), went to sandakan yesterday where we saw the orangutans at sepilok, and also the proboscis monkeys at kabuk bay. i'll leave it at that for now, cos i don't really feel like elaborating too much, not much to do left, maybe the beach tomorrow, shopping in kl, and then home, i'll post much more next week as well as some cool pictures.

after having played 2k10 for the past two months, i think i can give a pretty thoughtful review of the game now. please keep in mind that i haven't played console games of any type for a long time (computer games either), i don't have anything to compare the game to. any way, i'm getting this out of the way right now, i can't say that i am very impressed by the game, right now, i'd give it a six (maybe even five) out of ten, and i'm going to list all my issues below, as well, i guess, what i did like, since i only played my player, i'm only going to review that section (i have patched it, but didn't start fresh, my player is a small forward), and maybe the slam dunk contest. first, what i liked about it:

the game play is pretty good most of the time

saving and uploading replays, nice feature

short list it seems, now for the dislikes (including a lot of bugs):

player movement is extremely awkward, the player won't run half the time unless i sprint, otherwise he's in that defensive stance moving like a crab, or running (walking) in circles (especially bad in the dribbling drill)

related to the above, on defence, when your man runs to the basket, you're fucked unless you're standing away from him, cos he turns so slowly

too many goal tending and offensive interference calls (i saved a replay of a goal tending that is pretty obviously not)

hold the ball too long penalties, they simply are unrealistic(especially when you are the best player on the team by a long way)

a bug, sometimes when my player goes to inbound the ball after a basket, he starts running on the spot, and i get a five second violation

another bug, the stupid stat screens that don't go away during play, so you can't see half (or more) of the screen

my player doesn't catch alley oops since the patch came out

the fact that i have to wait an extra five to ten seconds after being subbed off just to go to the simulation screen, all these extra stats and shit should be an option to turn off, i just want to play the game, i don't care about the game feeling like i'm watching an actual game, i just want to play, don't waste my time

quarter length, i can now set the quarter length of my games, but the computer is still simulated to 12 minute quarters, so while seven minute quarters are good enough for me to be in the mvp race, it's pretty annoying that my player is handicapped by over forty percent of game time

going to nba headlines or nba home page, simulates games automatically, i lost an nba championship because of this, i had just won the conference finals and wanted to see what happened in the eastern conference, so i went to headlines, next thing i know, a prompt comes up saying the nets of all teams had won the title

actual game results different from what happened, i just lost a game to the nets in the regular season, then in the next game, the commentators started talking about how we beat them, i checked out the schedule it said we won, our win streak had increased, but our overall record increased by a loss, this happened a few times

why doesn't the game analysis store a complete record of all games (it's limited to 20)?

bad steal attempt, the player jumps the wrong way a lot of the time

ridiculous trades and team lineups, i played against the houston rockets with a frontline of kevin love at small forward, greg oden at power forward, and yao at centre, also our coach, nate mcmillan, played ben wallace at shooting guard

why does association mode have proper salaries and free agency, but not in my player mode? you only get one chance at the end of the season to decide if you want to go to a different team, you don't get to see who plays for the other teams, it just pops up asking if you want to change (to a random three or four teams) or stay

stupid tasks like take at least 7 jump shots in the game, as a player you always try to take the highest percentage shot possible, if you can take ten dunks in a game, why would you take a jump shot?

that's a real long list of dislikes, and i could probably think of more if i thought longer about it (or played again), a lot of it probably stems from me not having played these kinds of games for a while (so maybe i'm expecting too much), but certainly the bugs, i wouldn't expect to exist, the game just seems to lack polish. i'm going to think about getting the nba live demo to see what the game play is like there, but it'd be unlikely that i'd buy that this season.

the picture is a screenshot of a replay i uploaded of my player dunking on dwight howard, like i said, cool feature.

haven't done one of these for a while, guess i've just been really lazy, and it seems, the site has fallen apart due to that. alf notified me of an xml error with my rss (which i had noticed but assumed was just a network issue), white space was being inserted at the start of the documents for some reason, while i don't know why, i just moved the documents into the web directory, so they should be working now (we'll see after i post this). the other update i made cos i couldn't sleep this morning was fixing the search index for gallery items. it had been an issue for a while, some items gotten corrupted, and it was not possible to search properly, and rebuilding the whole index was not possible due to memory issues. so i just made an admin page to work around the memory issues by setting a limit to the number of items to re-index. any way, that's sorted, even though i most likely won't be adding to the gallery, at least you can search through what's there now. also, this gives me a chance to link to my player dunking on dwight howard haha. seems to be some javascript issues on my site now as well, so maybe i'll have to fix those up as well, don't expect another site update post for a very long time though.
