kookaburra sits in the old gum tree

he looks like he's got a smile on his face. i wanted to get a picture of a kookaburra before we left (we could hear them all day long), this one flew by, just as we were heading down from castle rock back to the camp site. the kookaburra has to be my favourite native australian bird.

cumberland river holiday park

looking out from the castle rock lookout, we can see the camp site where we stayed, and out to the ocean, with the cumberland river snaking it's way out to sea at the bottom of the picture. our camp site is below the third cabin on the far right of the picture. look closely enoughm and you can seem my tiny grey tent just above a red ute.

ozzy had a great time driving around the curves at high speed. this guy probably did too i reckon, it's a golf, not sure which version, but they all go pretty well.

lots of people out fishing on the rocks, it'd be fun i guess, if a little boring. don't know if this guy caught anything, but i don't think it's about that.

all crammed in nicely on the side of these rocks, i guess they got up there during high tide.

rock patterns

kind of hardened sand turning into rock or something. these patterns were all over the place, with the larger ones making little rock pools, where there weren't any crabs.

rocks at the cumberland river beach

went for a wander at the beach (not patrolled) just outside the camp site, and took some photos. it was a grey morning despite the warmth, didn't see any crabs, but did see some fish (very small ones) swimming around.

grasshopper

saw this grasshopper on alf's tent, so i grabbed my macro lens out, and starting snapping away. didn't manage to get anything particularly great, but this one was sharp enough. it was good, cos it didn't jump around too much. there were heaps of grasshoppers around the place as well.

the camp site is surrounded by a few "mountains", castle rock is one (we hiked up there), this is another, unfortunately, i don't know what it is called.

can we throw a shrimp on the barbie?

just snags and hamburgers i'm afraid, but they tasted pretty, bloody good. despite ozzy and my attempts at destroying dinner, we did manage to retain enough hamburgers and sausages to keep ourselves full. they were yum.

panorama of mount hotham

this is a five picture stitched panorama taken with my 50mm lens from the summit of mount loch. i used hugin with the autopano tool (the only one that worked), it had a couple of spots, but not really noticeable after a bit of touching up, and at screen resolution. it was pretty hazy (that's my excuse anyway ), so nothing special, but worth a try.

it's lifeless this time of year, but i bet it would be packed during winter. it's weird how all those trees in the background have no leaves.

we were staying around there, on the other side of those places i think. i wanted to be a little more insignificant, but the limitations of my remote wouldn't allow it.

at the summit, looking north along the path to dibbin's hut. that was a further ten km away, so we didn't bother .

hiking to heaven

it's a long way up in the clouds, i would've been stuffed on this short hike even if i hadn't killed myself the day before. i really am a sea level kind of guy (very disappointing)

the whiteouts were coming and going, but eventually eased off as it got later in the day.

it'd be easy to hike , that's the only way you'd get me on a black (or blue, or even green) run.

just at the start of the hike, don't know when thi swas last in action, but it was a good indicator of when we were close to the finish line.
