we booked a taxi to take us to the calakmul ruins, and had to get up bright and early (leaving at 6.30am). it even takes a while to see some ruins (about twenty minutes along a path). structure ii is the biggest structure at the site, but because of where it is built, the summit is slightly lower than structure i. a stele located on structure ii at calakmul, up on the first platform (break from climbing) this stele still shows some good amount of red paint and ancient mayan carvings. i also desaturated this picture a bit to try and emphasise the stele a bit more.
