a wild or ocellated turkey

if you arrive in the morning, you'll see dozens of these ugly (smiley) birds all over the road, they're about as dumb as you'd expect a turkey to be. very colourful though, and i can imagine that jaguars (if there are any in the region), wouldn't go hungry with these things around. our taxi driver was kind enough to stop so i could snap this picture up on our way out. it is possible to see much more wildlife on the road to the ruins, we saw deer, some unidentified birds, some kind of brown monkey-like animal, and some other things that i can't recall off the top of my head.
