ghost dog - the way of the samurai: review/synopsis

well, i saw this on sbs the other week, but didn't manage to post anything then, so i thought i should. it's pretty old, 1999, but that doesn't matter, forest whitaker (from that idi amin film) is the main character, ghost dog. he is a professional hitman for the mafia (italian), that follows the way of the samurai (hence the title). he does jobs for louie (some mafia guy that saved his life) who he contacts only through carrier pidgeon, but after he kills another mafia guy (made man), on the orders of the higher ranking mafia, he becomes the target.

following the guidelines set out by the book about the samurai, he goes out and kills all those that would kill him. in the end, he gives up everything and lets louie kill him (obviously after he (ghost dog) had killed the rest of the mob). it's a pretty quirky film, are italian mafia dudes really obssessed with watching cartoons (or like hip hop?)? anyways, it's pretty cool (i don't think it's meant to be realistic), more artistic, or make you think. the lines from the japanese book are quite deep, and would have some practical meaning in today's life. anyways, i thought it was good, despite the wackiness, and total lack of believability.
