yes, i signed up with dreamhost last week, and i've spent the last few days setting the site up, and getting the configuration right. i've finally almost got it going, just some odd javascript issues i think. the reason for the move is price, and disk space, 500gb vs 20gb (and quite costly to add extra) was just too much of a pull, especially considering that i don't really need full control of the server (i'd like it, but it is quite costly). i'm not giong to link to the site i've currently got on dreamhost cos it's purely for testing at the moment, but it is basically a replica of the current dtraCorp, with a heap of test posts.
so i'll be saying good bye to the vps, and root access, and settling on shared hosting with a shell account. it's been good, i've been able to learn a couple more things, and also cut costs, so i'm happy, i just hope that i don't lose too much by giving control of the server. i hope to have this last problem sorted out in the next day or so, and then i'll put the cron tasks into action, and start moving all the files into place on the new server (99% transferred already), and finally fix up dns, and i can then close the door on the vps era.
