yes, after reviewing and comparing the pictures on my site, to the ones that show up on flickr, it became obvious to me, that my image manipulations were pretty poor. after much experimenting, and trial and error, i finally arrived at my solution. an unsharp mask function written in php that could be used to process my images as i uploaded them would sharpen the resized images to a respectable output. initially, i had memory overflow errors when i tried to run this script, so to overcome this, i removed the stupid watermarks i had been putting on my pictures, and the big one, i decided not to resize the originals any more, rather, just leaving them in their original state (duh).
after reviewing the pics side by side, the difference is huge, and i think very nice. i've gone through and re-done pretty much all my new zealand gallery, but won't be doing the same for my older ones. i've posted an example of the difference between the sharpness, hopefully the unsharp mask doesn't work too well and sharpen both sides of the picture. the right should be the sharpened version, while the left should be blurred. the sample (smaller version) has been run through the site's unsharp mask filter, but the original was created using the gimp to blur out one side, just as an example. note: as i feared, the unsharp mask filter sharpened the blurred side, anyway, check out the full size picture to see what i mean.
now, the only other thing that i have really been working on, is tagging for my photos. i've got it for my news, but am only implementing it now for my photos, i've done the new zealand pictures, and am still deciding whether or not to do it for the rest of my gallery (over 800 pictures). either way, i'll soon have a tags section to search by, with most popular tags, etc.
one another note, that i mentioned in my last mighty boys post was that i will not be continuing my weekly basketball recaps after this season, it's just too much hassle, and i don't do it for sunday or thursday games, so i can't be bothered doing it for wednesdays any more either 
. i'll still post some season recaps, but that'll be it for that, leaving me more room to post other stuff.
