our last full day in queenstown (and new zealand), and we were going to spend it risking our lives jumping off a 134m suspended pod. with bungy lined up for 12pm, we basically didn't have much to do in the morning, so i just went down to the lake side and tried to get some more shots of the jetboats taking off. time to bungy had come, and we rocked up to the station (that's what the shop is called), and checked in and waited for the bus to take us to the bungy site. there was probably a group of fifteen people or so, so we weren't going to be lonely.
the location is really quite different from anything else you normally see in queenstown. quite arid, and lacking in green, it was like night and day. we got out and saw the pod, dangling, suspended between two cliff faces, looked down, and smiled
. they said they were going to move everyone across to the pod before people would start jumping, but before we got to the pod, a couple of people jumped.
that was quite reassuring
, the rope didn't break, once we got over we saw a couple more jump, then it was my turn (ordered by fattest first
). i strutted up to the seat and strapped in for the ride. i took my f30 to take some video of myself going down (for a different perspective to the official video), i think it worked out well
. i also had my heart rate monitor on, but it only went up to 116, so i guess i wasn't too worried
.
alf was next, and since we were both experienced pros at this, i guess it wasn't really a problem. beforehand, we were shaking and stuff, but afterwards, it's just so relaxed, and carefree. after we had gone back across to the main suiting up location (away from the pod), we got our cameras out and took a couple pictures, we didn't manage to get anyone's jump on photo. the second last guy, i missed the shot, and only managed to get him going back up. the last person, was some chick, she stood on the edge for ages, and eventually decided not to do it (spoiling my chance of a big bungy pan
).
the other people said that it was on the video feed inside the store, and she was shaking her head, then nodding, then shaking again. oh well, no refunds
!! so that was pretty cool, i had planned to do that the whole time, and did, so i was happy with that, much less nervous than the first time i did it (i reckon).
that whole thing took about three hours, so when we got back, there wasn't much to do, except wait for dinner. we did wander out to the lake side (a bit further down than the first time), and take some more long exposures of queenstown by night. but that was it, we then wandered around on another busy friday night in queenstown looking for somewhere to eat. we ended up at the cow for pizza and garlic bread. they were so busy (and small) that we had to share a table with some other people, but that was cool. the pizza and garlic bread were good, i think the pizza was better than winnies, but the garlic bread a tad less yummy. we both had some extra beers for our last night, drinking monteith's, i stuck with my pilseners, alf went for the original ales. for the last night, i decided to splash out
, and get a dessert as well, it was a big sundae, vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, and choc chips too, yum!!
that was it, we then headed back to prepare for our last morning and departure back to melbourne.
