new zealand 2007: day six - treble cone, wanaka

31st-aug-2007 - posted by dtra

for our fourth day of snow boarding, it was my turn to drive, and we decided to head to treble cone, which was a bit further than cardrona. we woke up pretty late, and got there after 11am i think, and had to park on the side of the road leading up to the normal car park. i pulled up behind some guy, and the parking attendant was like "come up more", i did one hand brake start, went a little closer, and couldn't be bothered trying to get closer (as the attendant wanted), he gave me crap for it too smiley. anyways, it wasn't as busy as the cardrona was the previous day, probably cos it was a monday, otherwise i could imagine that it is a pretty popular resort.

after a few runs of the green run (which was too windy for me), i stopped on a corner and took some pictures. just before i was about to get up and go, some guy came flying around some corner (i reckon he was an aussie) and partially crashed into someone else, and turns around, and starts waving and shouting, "get off the corner". i was like, "huh?" (obviously i hadn't read the snow code), then when i got to the bottom, that was pretty much it, i'd had enough. once alf got down, we pretty much sat around for a couple minutes, then decided that that was enough, and that we'd trade in the last day we had for something else.

four straight days was really too much, and pretty much ruined our plan. so we had to come up with a touring plan for the next few days. one funny incident on the way back to queenstown, going through wanaka, this steamroller was reversing through a perpendicular street, and didn't look like he was going to stop, so i sort of stopped, then had to start again on an uphill; cos i revved it pretty hard (cos some guy was behind me, and i didn't want to roll back), i got some wheel spin on the take off smiley.

didn't do too much once we got back, went to sombreros for a mexican dinner. we had a mexican garlic bread (which wasn't that great) i had an enchilada with taco, while alf had a sizzling fajita. i had a brewski (nice) and a steinlager, alf had a dos equis xx and a sol to get the mexican feel right.

that's it for the snowboarding part of the trip, will post some touring stuff next time, along with some new galleries, hopefully.
