new zealand 2007: day four - the remarkables, queenstown

29th-aug-2007 - posted by dtra

we both woke up with sore necks after the first day on the slopes, alf said he was just sleeping in a bad position, while i'm not sure if it was from the falls i had, or whether i was also hurting from a bad night's sleep. anyway, we decided to head to the remarkables for the second day of our ski tour, the second nearest to queenstown, about forty minutes drive. we forgot to set the alarm, and were woken up by house keeping, we eventually were on our way, but alf forgot the lift passes, fortunately, we weren't too far out of town at that point. we got about half way up the mountain, and this ridiculous mist just appeared, and visibility was about two metres in all directions. we managed to get up all right, and made our way to the slopes.

we went to the second green run, and after a couple runs where i was falling over heaps, and getting really sore, i was contemplating quitting. it was my low point, after a bit of discussion, we headed to the first green run. i gave it another go, and lo and behold, i started to get it a bit better, and this run was a bit easier too smiley. after a few hours of boarding, we headed back to the hotel, luckily the mist had gone, so it was smooth sailing down the mountain. it was only after we got back that we read on the weather chart, that 2wd cars were meant to put the snow chains on, 6km from the top smiley. so we were lucky i guess.

we pretty much just rested for a couple hours before heading out for dinner. we went to q lounge for (happy hour) pizza, we also got wedges (and they were huge, and very nice), so that filled us up quite well, the pizza was good too. afterwards, we went to play some pool, which was just next door, they had a deal, for every drink you get, you get ten minutes of pool free, so we took them up, and when we finally got up to an hour of free pool, we called it quits. damn it, alf beat me 6-5, i was playing well too, just unlucky on a couple of occasions.

that was it, and we decided to head to cardrona the next day, which was an hour and a half drive from town.
