i finally decided to replace the old mountain bike, the brakes are worn to a nub, and rather than replace them now, i just got a new bike
. i'll replace the brakes on the old kona later, so i can use it as a backup, but now i got the extra speed of the entry level road bike. it's last years model, yes, but it is the equivalent of the 2008 ocr2 (cos it has a carbon fork). the sales guy basically said they didn't have any new models in stock, and this was the only thing they had, i had wanted this one cos of the carbon fork, but at a lower price. cos i didn't want to drive to work for the next few days before my holiday, i went ahead and got bike.
i'm about to take it for a test ride, cos the gears are way different to anything i've ever used, and the handlebars as well, of course. i'm gonna have to work out what gears to use now as well for climbs, as well as be more careful of objects on the road. hopefully it all works well, and i don't have any issues, the inconsistencies in the road are my biggest concern, because of the thin tyres, i'm going to have to be a lot more careful.
just a couple pics i took of the bike, standing locked to my house

rode to work for the first time on my new bike today, took a few minutes longer, changed my route slightly to avoid the roundabout (so it's a bit longer now), and also traffic was pretty bad today, so i'm blaming that for now. climbing hills was so much faster and easier. just navigating traffic was a bit hairy, as i learn how to control the bike better

had my first go on the dtraCorp time trial, which was modified this year to reduce turns and small street riding. my average was 26.2kph, about 2.5kph faster than my old best. not a big difference, top speed, and climbing speed didn't seem all that different. still need to learn to handle a bit better.
