well, in that "every other year" way, they've won the nba title in 2007, as they did in 2005 and 2003 and 1999 (lost to a rampant la lakers in 2001). a sweep over the over-matched and inexperienced cleveland cavaliers (despite lebron james' best efforts) for their fourth title in nine years. i only saw the highlights as provided by the espn web site, and also the third quarter of today's game four (in the pub at lunch), but from what i've read, cleveland were just an inferior team. from what i saw of the third quarter, that was pretty obvious.
they missed several wide open jump shots as the spurs collapsed on lebron and the lane. i don't know if it's the class of the players, or the inexperience, if it's inexperience, then one could expect cleveland to imrove. otherwise, they definitely need to bring in some better shooters (which i think they need anyway), but also, they need to bring in a decent point guard. as tony parker's finals mvp award showed, they could not defend the point, and they could not make him work on defence too much either i'm guessing.
ahh yes, tony parker took the finals mvp that everyone thought was going to tim duncan (me included). i guess it did come down to who performed better in game four, and td had a pretty ordinary game offensively. i saw one play tony parker made in the third quarter today, bursting past three cavs on the break, getting the layup and 1 (although he missed the free throw
), that was pretty incredible. my man manu had a big recovery after a dreadful game 3, and you can see him celebrating in the picture.
i guess now we all sit back, wait for big greg oden to get drafted by portland (???), and see who the spurs get (hopefully some good palyers
), and see if they can finally repeat (hopefully), or whether this is the last championship they taste (hopefully not). a couple of things i'm looking forward to next season (as a spurs fan), hopefully seeing more of james white, maybe seeing ian mahinmi, and hopefully we get some good young rookies that can compete for roster spots, as well as the rest of the gang already there, obviously.
