watched this on dvd last night, it's got will ferrell, dustin hoffman, emma thompson, and maggie gyllenhaal in it. it's a film about a character in a novel, who actually turns out to be a real person. it's a little confusing (or abstract, or out there, something like that), harold crick (will ferrell) starts hearing a voice narrating his life, and he is concerned (obviously). maybe it's just me, but i just expect will ferrell to be in some real wacky, crazy comedy everytime. this was more quirky and "strange" (i guess that's what the title implies).
harold crick is a very meticulous irs tax agent, that has a set routine, and he sticks to it. one day, he starts hearing a voice that seems to be narrating his life, and gets worried. the story continues and he is lead on an audit to a bakery run by anne (maggie gyllenhaal).
the film was good, although it's hard to take will ferrell seriously, even though this film wasn't too serious, i just expect him to strip naked and start running down the street or something
. it had some funny parts, but nothing like the outrageous stuff you would expect from will ferrell. i guess the only real confusing thing was the fact that the narration was only partial. when he goes to see the professor of literature (dustin hoffman), there is no narration, the parts where he is concerned with the actual story, don't seem to have any narration. i guess stories don't usually cover people 24 hours a day, although, when a character goes to see the doctor/professor, you'd expect that to be in a novel.
anyways, the film was ok - good, not great, but then again, maybe it was too subtle for me. i think the next film i see with will ferrell in it, it should be something like ricky bobby
.
