or the full name, samsung sa schneider d-xenon 50-200mm, f4-5.6 ed lens. i wanted to get the zoom telephoto lens from the start, but wasn't able to afford it (well, i could've but i didn't want to spend that much straight away). originally, i was going to get the pentax 50-200, and wait till going on holidays, so that i could get it tax-free, but then i found out that teds was selling the samsung version for $185, over $200 less than what i could get the pentax for. it's virtually the same lens, it says samsung instead, has a blue band instead of a green one, the zoom and focus rings are little pyramids rather than the normal grooves of pentax, and that's about it i think, hopefully it's not some awesome, secret thing that pentax has left out of the samsung version.
i'll be taking this lens the next time i go to the footy or something, to see what it can do. i think it should complement my 16-45 very well. it's smaller than the 16-45, not a lot shorter, but a fair bit smaller in diameter, weighs less too. got it from teds in the city, i went in and asked, and the guy was like $199, then i said ok, i'll be back, and he said "i can do it for $175", so i went to michaels, and they didn't know what was going on, trying to peddle the pentax for $499 (i can get it way cheaper everywhere, if i wanted). so i went back to teds, and did the deal.
here are a couple of photos of it, and also a couple of crummy photos i took with it in the backyard. the exif should be intact (nope, damn it).
