mighty boys vs coutas - grading week 5

9th-may-2007 - posted by dtra

a new team in this division, at least, we haven't played them before, and even before tip-off it looked quite daunting. they had a couple of guys about 6-5" or so, but for whatever reason they hadn't won a game yet, so hard to know what to expect. they were pretty good, but lacked discipline and nous, as they were pretty lazy on defence, and also on offence, apart from crashing the boards every now and then. we played them to a virtual tie in the first half, 14-16, working them out, then ran over them in the second half (perhaps they were tired), and won 40-27 in the end. they were dominating the boards in the first half, and there wasn't much we could do to keep them out, the two big guys would just reach over and grab it. we also had a new player today, gordon, who is a guard/ball handler type, and chris from the sunday team also filled in.

we applied a bit more pressure, and ran the ball a bit harder in the second half, forcing some turnovers, and getting some boards as they appeared to drop off. simon kept us in it early, scoring pretty much everything in the first half, i couldn't hold on to the ball, and couldn't make a shot (missed a couple layups, and couple ft's). definitely my worst half of basketball for a while, really terrible.

i took advantage of their lack of run and discipline in the second half though, forcing my way to the basket and even grabbing some offensive rebounds. i was feeling a little tired at points, but once i started running a bit, it all seemed ok. we must've scored a lot of fast break points in the second half, cos they really weren't getting back.

so onto the season tallies, points, add 13, taking me to 51, and free throws 3/6 (two in and out), dropping me to 13/22 (pretty much my norm). we're 4-1 this season, and we're staying in division 3, so we're at least four games better off this season, than we were last season.
