well, all my cycling stuff has come together, and i've now got the whole package. my indoor trainer (which i won't be using indoors) came in yesterday, and my pedals last week, got some new shoes to go with the pedals earlier this week, and now i am looking like a pro. i managed to get the pedals on (despite the ridiculously narrow nut) and they seem reasonably tight, so i've been practising engaging and disengaging (i wanted to sound special) from the pedals using my new shoes with cleats. getting them in doesn't seem to be an issue at all, releasing is a bit more work, i'm not sure if i've got it all tuned right, cos it does take a bit of effort to get them out (hopefully it's just a getting used to phase, and it gets easier). anyway, i'll be practising a bit more on my trainer (maybe on the back streets as well) before monday, so that i hopefully have a smooth effort out on the real roads with traffic.

it actually feels really good when the shoes are in the pedals, it almost feels like i am at one with the bike (haha), we'll see how i feel when i'm actually riding up a hill or something. the trainer uses a magnetic resistance thingy, so you just put the bike up on it, and start pedalling, should be good for warming up the body, and those days where i feel i need to do exercise, but don't actually want to do anything. to get any real work out of it, i really need to be in a pretty high gear on the bike though.

notes

well, got through my first day out on the road with traffic pretty smoothly, so hopefully i can keep it up. felt really good too, especially climbing, just seemed natural, and easier.

lol, had my first fall today, pretty much how i thought it would happen, coming up the inside with cars in both lanes (on an uphill as well), the lights just changed to green, and i was thinking about trying to not unclip, but before i realised it, i wasn't moving, and my feet were still clipped in, and down i went (to the left). had a big tangle on the ground, managed to get my right foot out,

but my left foot, which was under me, was a bit tougher, eventually managed to get untangled, and off again, pretty embarrassing. next time i'll just unclip early as a precaution.
