went and saw shooter last night, starring mark wahlberg amongst others. it's a an action film, with lots of blood, and violence (although a lot of the killing is done from a distance so you don't get that real violent feel smiley). i had no idea what the film was about, so it was a good thing that we got there on time for once, so as not to miss any part of the film. it starts off with wahlberg (bob lee swagger, a marine sniper) and his partner in ethiopia sniping some guys, when things turn awry, their commanders leave them for dead, his partner gets killed, and he manages to escape.

the next thing you know, it's three years later, and walhberg is living in the country somewhere. the government has received a credible warning that someone is out to assassinate the president, but they only know that it is internal, and that it will be an expert sniper. they enlist swagger to recon the locations where the president could be killed, then get him to be at the scene most likely. the ethiopian archbishop is also speaking, and he is the one in fact, assassinated. swagger is framed, and is shot by a dirty cop, he manages to escape, and finds his old partner's ex girlfriend (sarah), who helps clean up his wounds.

then, he gets an fbi agent (memphis) to help him find the culprits, eventually he gets his man, and shoots them all dead. he finds out a us senator is behind it all, and arranges a meeting to exchange kidnapped sarah for a digital recording of the foreign guy that actually killed the archbishop. at the meeting, he decides that it's not going to work, and gives himself up to the fbi. after proving his innocence (of the archbishop assassination), he is freed from jail, and because justice wasn't dealt upon danny glover's character (some colonel), he decides to take the law into his own hands. at a meeting between the senator and the colonel, they are sniped off, and all killed.

in terms of the action, it was pretty good, the storyline was a bit unrealistic, and the way that the sloppy "straight out of the academy" fbi agent instantly morphs into a top marksman is a bit ridiculous. i also had a feeling that he was being set up when they called him in, i just thought they could just as easily be framing him, as actually requiring his help. all in all, it was a good dumb movie, the head shots were awesome smiley.
