got an email from them today, saying "we've just moved your account to a new server, sorry for the lack of notice, but you shouldn't notice anything" (obviously i'm paraphrasing). so i go to my site to check, and what do i get? a big fat "internal server error" message, i send a trouble ticket to them, cos i don't have access to see the logs and update stuff at work, get no response from them. then i come home and i'm looking all over the place to work out what the problem is (cos they certainly aren't helping), and it turns out that the server move went to a 64 bit version of debian. so my custom php build doesn't work of course, because it was built on a 32 bit machine. obviously they don't support custom builds of php which is fair enough, but you'd think they'd show some kind of courtesy by asking me if i would like to be moved, or if there would be any foreseeable issues with moving me. but no, we'll move you and tell you afterwards, and we won't tell you that the server architecture has changed, so if you're using a customised php build, it'll fuck it up. anyways, i seem to have got the site back up and running now (with imap and ssl removed because they are just weird), this kind of shit better not happen while i'm away, that'd be a real disaster. i'm gonna have to seriously look into maybe just using blogspot and flickr from now on (or when i get back anyway). this kind of shit isn't worth the trouble, or maybe another shared host, though i'm not sure if anyone provides the same features as dreamhost.
i made that picture myself, well, i took the dreamhost graphic from their site.
