mighty boys vs eastern bulls 1 - grading week 2

11th-apr-2007 - posted by dtra

we have played these guys a few times before, in division three the last two seasons, so we knew what to expect. they had a huge height advantage, and with us missing our two centres, it was going to be tough to keep them out. in a slow first half (due to a heap of players being late), it was still 2-2 with about seven minutes remaining, we fought pretty well under the boards, keeping it close at 10-10 at halftime. we got off to a quick start and took the lead in the second half, and despite losing it a couple times, we were able to hang on for a tough, strange win, 34-28.

i really thought they played oddly, really not exposing us inside, and settling for jump shots. we were able to push the ball a bit mroe in the second half, and pressure them to force quicker shots. i was really trying to concentrate on grabbing boards and keeping them out of the lane (i was playing centre, i thought those days were over smiley). it was a good job that freddy, simon, and lawrence stepped up to fill the scoring void. henry (who was also hobbled), played some good d, and got in the passing lanes well, and kang and simon were good at pressuring the ball.

a good win for us, considering that we were massively out-sized, we were able to use a bit of nouse to pull out the win. i scored six points, and shot no free throws, keeping my 100% mark intact smiley. totals, 22 points, and 6/6 from the line, if we keep this up, we might get promoted to division two, not something i want, let's hope some of the other teams try a bit harder than us.
