review/synopsis: the bank job

"based on a true story" is the sub title for this film based in 1970-71 about some guys (and a girl) breaking into a bank vault to raid safety deposit boxes. starring the transporter himself, the supposed truth is that incriminating photos and other stash were stored in the bank vault, and the gang were hired (without their knowledge of course) by a government spy agency to get the photos out. there ended up being a lot more than the robbers had bargained for, and that's when the lock, stock and two smoking barrels fun starts.

the crooks find out that their stash has been taken, the spies lose track of the robbers, and everything is a big mess. it's pretty funny because supposedly the robbery was all over the news because they were overheard on a radio (while talking on their walkie talkies), but because of the sensitive information involved, the government stopped the news media from reporting what happened afterwards.

it was a pretty fun film, not sure how much is truth, you can pretty much just treat it as something like the plot is based on a true story, but everything that happens is fiction whenever something is based on a true story. the fact that it is based on a true story makes it a little more interesting, because the truth is always a little more interesting isn't it? anyway, imagine what would happen if something like that happened today, i think the pictures (or videos) would be released onto the internet and downloaded by millions before any government could stop it.
