the penultimate round, and we faced another must-win game to keep our finals hopes alive. against a team we lost to earlier in the season, we knew it wasn't going to be easy. it was tight in the first half, i think we lead something like 15-12, but with dave (ii
) returning, we were able to increase the margin in the second half, and take the victory 32-23. we had a massive nine man rotation today, so there shouldn't have been any issues with fatigue. they were able to close down the space on defence (in the key area) pretty well, and i didn't get as many layup opportunities as usual (through cuts).
we were able to draw some fouls on them in the first half, to put some pressure on them defensively, and force them to play more tentatively. simon hit some big shots, and dave made a great comeback with some nice drives. i got to play up top a bit, and put some pressure on the guards, got a few steals too. it was still a little disappointing, as we weren't able to score as freely as we would've liked, but the win is more important at this stage.
i had a pretty ordinary first half, scoring two points (both on free throws), and only managed to knock down 2/6 from the line. i scored 8 points, to take the season tally to 178, and 39/75 (
) from the line overall. final round next week, and it is definitely do or die, we play the team currently in fourth for the last place in the finals. so whoever wins that game goes through to the finals. we'll see what happens.
