went and saw i am legend which stars will smith, it's based on a novel written in the 50's. some doctor has come up with using a mutated form of the measles to treat cancer, it seems successful at first, but then turns into a deadly and devastating virus (basically killing 90% of the human population on earth). will smith plays an army doctor (robert neville) that is put in charge of finding a cure for the disease. he has several flashbacks to the night that new york city (manhattan i think) was sealed off to prevent the virus from spreading. it is a particularly nasty virus, symptoms include:

robert neville stays in new york to find the cure, using a lab in his basement, and taking extreme measures to keep the diseased (i'll just call them zombies) from finding him. because of their sensitivity to uv light, the zombies cannot stray into exposed areas during the day, giving will smith the opportunity to look for other survivors. eventually, he believes he has found the cure (from experiments on rats), and goes and traps an infected person to test. it doesn't work.

the zombies don't like this, and set a trap for him, this gets his dog infected, and he has to kill her in his arms. he gets depressed and drives out to commit suicide, but after running over several dozen zombies, then coming close to death, he is rescued by a couple of other people that are also immune to the virus.

they eventually find that the test patient is responding well to the cure, too late for neville, but he is able to get a sample to the woman that saved him before he kills himself along with several zombies. the two survivors escape to a safe compound in the country (where the zombies haven't been able to break into) with the cure, the end.

it's basically a b grade horror flick, it sort of looked ok, but after watching it, there seemed to be holes everywhere. the concept was kind of cool, but the execution was lacking, and seemed rushed. the good thing was that it was reasonably short at 100 minutes (which was the reason we chose it over american gangster). i would recommend as a dvd or low to no pay watch, not worth a lot of money to go and see.
